NZ pilot grounded after quip over PM's 'lateness'
Thursday, the 1st of September 2005. 10:00pm (AEST)
An Air New Zealand pilot has been grounded, after making a joke at the expense of the country's prime minister.
The airline says he needs what its called communication training.
On a flight to Christchurch the Air New Zealand pilot told passengers a delay was due to fog and because Prime Minister Helen Clark was late.
Several government ministers already on the plane objected to the comments and when Miss Clark boarded she was invited to the cockpit.
"This is an issue of fairness. The whole plane was told that I as Prime Minister was responsible for the delay. That just wasn't true," she said.
The pilot has apologised and has been grounded for two days.
